Social Factors that shaped French Nationalism
Social factors is a term that means the relationships among people in a society. Before the revolution France was divided into a strict social order that was defined largely at birth. The monarchs and the aristocrats held most of the power in France. These people (monarchs and the aristocrats) paid very few taxes and they collected taxes, rents , and other fees from common people. This social factor made the common people very angry because they were already very poor people and they had to pay much higher taxes and they gave most of their money to the clergy and the nobles, this social factor in my opinion played a huge role in the French revolution because the people were fed up with paying large amounts of taxes and they were tired of suffering and the king did nothing to help them. The French bourgeoisie provided the common people with new ideas, these ideas changed the way people thought of themselves, but these people could do little to change French society because they were excluded from decision-making power. This is when people started to think for themselves and started to think that what the King was doing to France was wrong, In my opinion I think that this was a huge turning point for the people of France they started to think for themselves and they wanted to get the freedom that they deserved to get.
